Professional Background




 
Andy Hooton is a BASES accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist with both a national level sports record and a strong academic sports background. Andy graduated from Liverpool John Moore’s University in 2005 with a BSc (hons) in Psychology and Biology and achieved his MSc in Sport and Exercise Science in 2006. Andy has worked as a lecturer in sport and exercise psychology since 2006 and is presently employed as a Senior Lecturer by the University of Derby. He is also in the final year of his PhD in Sports Psychology.

Andy qualified with the British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences (BASES). BASES are the only professional body that accredit sport scientists in the UK, with international recognition. Accreditation is achieved over three years of rigorous, supervised experience and CPD in order to attain the required levels of competency and expertise (stipulated and regulated by the professional governing body BASES). 

  
 Andy also has a counselling qualification (D171), he is a trained gym instructor (L2) and has been involved in the applied sport psychology field working with Junior, International, Olympic, Professional and Elite individuals and teams for over six years, utilising effective sport psychology techniques in both sporting and business environments.

Sporting Achievements

Andy has been a national champion at hockey, a sport which he has played since the age of five and for which he achieved his Full Colours at Liverpool John Moore’s University - during which time he captained the first team. He has also competed in Rugby and Tennis at county level, Football and Golf at club level and has participated regularly in many other sports.
